Munce To Ride Phelan Ready

Chris Munce will get a feel of 2009 Golden Slipper winner Phelan Ready at the star-studded Randwick barrier trials on Friday.

Munce will ride Phelan Ready in the Group Two $150,000 Premiere Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on Saturday week.

Regular jockey Brad Rawiller, who cannot make Phelan Ready’s weight of 50.5kg in the Premiere Stakes, will be aboard the three-year-old in the $1 million Golden Rose 2009 on August 29.

Phelan Ready runs in the second heat on Friday over 800 metres and will be up against AJC Australian Derby winner Roman Emperor and AJC Sires’ Produce winner Manhattan Rain.

The opening heat over 800 metres features the John O’Shea-trained multiple Group One winner and Cox Plate 2009 hopeful Racing To Win and stablemate Fist Of Fury.

O’Shea is particularly pleased with Fist Of Fury who has not raced since finishing sixth to Scenic Blast in the Group One Newmarket Handicap at Flemington in March.

“I wasn’t just going to run him for the sake of it through the autumn and now he is in fantastic order, 30kg heavier and now really looks ready to aim up in the spring,” O’Shea said.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained Reisling Stakes winner More Joyous also runs in the first heat.

Both opening trials for the Group-performed horses will be run on the Kensington track with the remainder on the steeple grass.
