Champion jockey Craig Williams predicts Sydney three-year-old Trusting will only get better as he approaches next month’s Caulfield Guineas 2009.
Williams rode the talented colt at trackwork on Tuesday and will have his first race ride on him in Saturday’s Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m).
“He is a lovely individual and he looks like an outstanding horse,” Williams said.
“He gave me a good feel the other morning and he will be better for that experience when he faces race conditions going the Melbourne way for the first time.”
Trusting has raced just four times but is already a weight-for-age winner of the Group Two Warwick Stakes (1400m) at only his third start.
Two weeks ago he spotted the leaders a huge start when a fast-finishing second to Guineas favourite Denman in the Group One 2009 Golden Rose (1400m).
“He’s got quality,” Williams said.
“Not many horses can win a weight-for-age race after only a couple of runs.
“He is a big raw horse and still doing a lot of things wrong but he feels like a good horse and really is untapped at the moment.
“He has got plenty of scope and plenty of ability.”
Trusting is a Patinack Farm-owned three-year-old and has already repaid the $300,000 Nathan Tinkler spent for him as a yearling in New Zealand.
The colt is by Tale Of The Cat out of 2003 Sandown Classic winner Legible.
He heads TAB Sportsbet’s Guineas Prelude market at $4 from Starspangledbanner ($5.50) who is looking to add to his unbeaten three runs this campaign.
Manhattan Rain is $6 while Tollesprit will race in blinkers for the first time and is $7.50 along with Tickets.
2009 Golden Slipper winner Phelan Ready will try to reignite his spring campaign with winkers replacing the blinkers he normally wears.
Denman, who is at $4 to win the Group One Caulfield Guineas on October 10, is scheduled to make his next appearance in the Stan Fox Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday week.
Trusting is second elect at $8 with So You Think, who runs in the Gloaming Stakes (1800m) at Rosehill on Saturday, a $10 chance.
