Trainer Greg Eurell will await the outcome of Damien Oliver’s appeal next Monday before looking for a replacement jockey for Apache Cat in the Hong Kong Sprint 2009 on December 13.

Oliver has appealed against the severity of a one-month suspension after returning a positive urine sample to the prohibited substance ephedrine when tested on 2009 Derby Day at Flemington on October 31.

He claims that the positive had come about due to him taking a herbal supplement which he has been using since 2000 without any previous issues.

“I spoke to Damien last night and he said he wasn’t worried about it so I’m not worried about it,” Eurell said.

“We’ve had half a dozen local boys ring up just throwing their hat in the ring.”

One of those was Craig Williams who has ridden Apache Cat once for a win in the 2006 Group Two Phar Lap Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill.

Williams has had plenty of experience riding in Hong Kong.

“You are probably better off getting one of our guys who have ridden there and know the layout of the track,” Eurell said.

Apache Cat was ridden by Corey Brown when he finished third in the Hong Kong Sprint (1200m) at Sha Tin last year.

Hong Kong-based Brett Prebble will ride Sacred Kingdom in the race while Darren Beadman may be available.

Apache Cat will leave for Hong Kong on Tuesday.

Oliver’s suspension was to start on Wednesday night but a stay of proceedings was granted until Sunday night.
